Abstract
Ross Harrison's study makes Bentham interesting and accessible. Harrison guides the reader through a corpus of daunting scope and discouraging condition. His aim is primarily interpretative, but his method is not (nor could it be) purely expository. Harrison develops his interpretations by working through philosophical puzzles that Bentham faced or left for posterity. This helps Harrison to identify Bentham's motivations, to reconstruct his doctrines, and to display a systematic coherence in Bentham's work.
