Abstract
While attending the International Conference of the Jewish Law Association at Oxford, we had occasion to visit the Ashmolean Museum. We were particularly attracted by the Metrological Relief in the Arundel Marbles collection (pl. xxxv111). Our excitement was fired by our coincidental interest in the significance of measured standards in the formulation of Jewish legal concepts. The Metrological Relief represented an opportunity to illustrate graphically the concept of using standard measures based upon the human body, since the Greek work demonstrates the application of the same technique employed by Jewish law.
